Brian Denis Cox CBE is a Scottish actor born on June 1, 1946, in Dundee, Scotland. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and built a distinguished career spanning theater, film, and television over more than five decades. He is the first actor to portray Hannibal Lecktor on screen, in Manhunter (1986).
Cox became a global television star as Logan Roy, the fearsome patriarch and founder of the media conglomerate Waystar Royco, in the HBO drama Succession (2018-2023). His towering, volcanic performance as the ruthless billionaire earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Drama Series and multiple Emmy nominations.
Beyond Succession, Cox has had a prolific career including roles in Braveheart (1995), The Bourne Identity (2002), Troy (2004), and Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011). He is a celebrated stage actor and author of the memoir Putting the Rabbit in the Hat (2022).
