Danai Jekesai Gurira is an American actress and playwright born on February 14, 1978, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Zimbabwean parents. She holds an MFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Gurira is known for playing Michonne in The Walking Dead (2012-2020, 2024) and Okoye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She is also an acclaimed playwright whose play Eclipsed was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play.
