David Kenneth Harbour is an American actor born on April 10, 1975, in White Plains, New York. He studied drama at Dartmouth College and trained at the Yale School of Drama. Harbour spent years as a respected stage and character actor, appearing on Broadway and in films like Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Revolutionary Road (2008).
Harbour achieved mainstream stardom as Jim Hopper, the gruff but lovable police chief of Hawkins, Indiana, in the Netflix series Stranger Things (2016-2025). His compelling portrayal of the flawed father figure earned him two Primetime Emmy nominations and a Critics' Choice Award, making him one of the breakout stars of the series.
Beyond Stranger Things, Harbour played Red Guardian / Alexei Shostakov in the Marvel film Black Widow (2021), starred in the title role of Hellboy (2019), and appeared in the action film Violent Night (2022) as Santa Claus. He married singer Lily Allen in 2020.
