Jennifer Leann Carpenter is an American actress born on December 7, 1979, in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from Juilliard's Drama Division and quickly established herself in both film and television.

Carpenter is best known for her role as Debra Morgan in Dexter (2006-2013, 2021-2022), Dexter's foul-mouthed, fiercely loyal adoptive sister. She also gained recognition for her starring role in the horror film The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005). Carpenter was married to co-star Michael C. Hall from 2008 to 2011.
