Joseph David Keery is an American actor and musician born on April 24, 1992, in Newburyport, Massachusetts. He studied acting at The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago and appeared in numerous commercials and short films before his breakout role.

Keery gained fame as Steve Harrington in the Netflix series Stranger Things (2016-2025). Originally conceived as a minor antagonist, Steve's popularity with audiences led to the character being expanded into a fan-favorite protector figure. Keery's transformation of Steve from high school bully to beloved babysitter became one of the show's signature character arcs.
