Severance
About Severance
Severance explores a world where employees of the biotechnology corporation Lumon Industries undergo a surgical procedure called "severance" that divides their memories between their work and personal lives. Mark Scout, a team lead in Lumon's mysterious Macrodata Refinement department, begins to unravel a web of conspiracies both inside and outside the severed floor. As Mark's "innie" and "outie" selves each pursue the truth from their respective sides, the show raises profound questions about identity, free will, corporate control, and what it means to be whole.

The severance procedure is a fictional surgical operation that implants a chip in the brain to completely separate a person's work memories from their personal memories. "Innies" only exist at work with no knowledge of their outside lives, while "outies" have no memory of what happens during work hours.
Lumon Industries is the mysterious biotechnology corporation at the center of the show. Founded by the revered Kier Eagan, Lumon practices a cult-like corporate culture and developed the severance procedure. The true nature of the company's work, especially in the Macrodata Refinement department, is one of the show's central mysteries.
