Character Arc
Demeter Gergely, known as Geri, is a twenty-year-old starting his first year at a Budapest university in 1985. Bright and eager but politically naive, he is cornered by the State Security service, which exploits his desperate need for state-supplied medicine to keep his gravely ill younger brother alive. Pressured into becoming an informant, Geri agrees to spy on a circle of student activists.
As he embeds himself with the group around Zsolt Szava, Geri is torn between the duties forced on him and the genuine friendships and ideals he discovers among the very people he is reporting on. Each piece of information he passes to his handler deepens his guilt, and the show charts his slow recognition that there may be no clean way out of the bargain he was forced to make.
Geri's arc is the moral spine of the series, dramatizing how an ordinary young man can be turned into a tool of a surveillance state and what that betrayal costs him. His divided loyalties, mounting fear of exposure, and attempts to protect both his brother and his friends drive the eight-episode story to its tense conclusion.
