Character Arc
Lineu Silva is the moral and emotional anchor of A Grande Familia, a diligent public-health inspector who prizes honesty, routine, and quiet respectability. He is the kind of man who follows the rules even when no one is watching, and much of the show's comedy comes from how badly that temperament clashes with the disorder of his own household. Lineu wants nothing more than peace, a tidy home, and a family that behaves, which makes him perpetually exasperated.
Over the series Lineu functions as the long-suffering straight man, absorbing the schemes of his brother-in-law Agostinho and the small chaos generated by his children and neighbors. His signature exasperation, often delivered with a weary look or a resigned sigh, became one of the show's defining comic notes. Beneath the frustration, however, Lineu is deeply devoted to his wife Nene and his family, and his stubborn decency repeatedly wins out over the temptations and shortcuts swirling around him.
As the show evolved across more than a decade, Lineu remained the steady center against which every other character was measured. Storylines tested his patience with workplace pressures, financial worries, and domestic misunderstandings, yet he consistently returned to his core values of integrity and care. That reliability made him both the comic punching bag and the heart of the household, a combination that helped turn the role into one of the most recognizable characters in Brazilian sitcom history.
