Character Arc
Lauri Raiha is the central detective of All the Sins, a Helsinki-based investigator who returns to Varjakka, the strict Laestadian Lutheran community in northern Finland where he was raised, to investigate the murders of two local men. His homecoming is fraught: he left the town years earlier after a painful break with its religious culture, and the case forces him back into contact with the family and faith he tried to leave behind.
Across the first season, Lauri's professional detachment is steadily undermined by the personal weight of the investigation. As an insider who became an outsider, he can read the community's silences but is also wounded by them, and the mystery becomes inseparable from his own history. His partnership with colleague Sanna Tervo gives him a counterweight, someone unburdened by local ties who can press where he hesitates.
In the third season, Lauri returns to Varjakka alongside Sanna to investigate the murder of a former constable and the possibility of a copycat killer. The later case lets the series revisit his unresolved relationship with the town and its people, deepening a portrait of a man caught between secular police work and the closed world that shaped him.
