Character Arc
Angela Montenegro is the soul of the Jeffersonian lab, a free-spirited artist whose talent for facial reconstruction gives names and faces back to the dead. Where her colleagues see data, Angela sees people, and she serves as Brennan's best friend, confidante, and emotional translator to the rest of the world. Warm, bohemian, and unabashedly romantic, she keeps the morgue from feeling like a tomb.
Her gifts grow with the technology of the show, as she builds the Angelator and later sophisticated holographic systems that recreate crime scenes in three dimensions. Beneath the breezy exterior lies a guarded past, including a famous musician father and a secret marriage she would rather forget, which she works through over the seasons.
Angela's central thread is her on-again, off-again love story with entomologist Jack Hodgins, which matures into a marriage and family that tests them both. When tragedy and a paralyzing injury strike Hodgins, Angela becomes the steady, fierce partner holding their life together. She closes the series as a wife and mother, proof that the lab's most tender heart was also its strongest.
