Character Arc
Giulio Cesaroni is the steady center of the series, a widowed father of three sons who runs the family wine bar in Garbatella and tries to hold his household together through humor and stubborn affection. When he reconnects with Lucia Liguori, a woman from his past, his quiet bachelor home is suddenly filled with her daughters and a new set of family rules he never bargained for.
Much of Giulio's arc is about learning to be a partner and stepfather as well as a father, negotiating the friction between his boys and Lucia's girls while keeping the bar running. He is warm but old-fashioned, often caught between his instinct to protect his children and the need to let them grow, and his relationship with Lucia is tested repeatedly by misunderstandings, jealousy, and the pressures of a crowded house.
Over the seasons Giulio matures from a set-in-his-ways widower into the patriarch of a genuinely blended family, weathering grief, financial strain, and the romantic ups and downs of his children. The 2024 revival revisits him years later, underscoring his role as the emotional anchor whose loyalty to family and neighborhood defined the show.
