Character Arc
Caiman is the protagonist of Dorohedoro, a tall, easygoing man cursed with the head of a reptile and stripped of his memories. Living in the slum known as the Hole, he is driven by a single question: who he used to be before a Sorcerer transformed him. Rather than brooding over his predicament, Caiman approaches it with blunt good humor and an enormous appetite, making him an unusually warm anchor for such a grim setting.
His search is built around an eerie clue: a separate human face hidden inside his jaws, which appears when his mouth is opened and seems to recognize the Sorcerer who cursed him. This running mystery, of who is inside Caiman and how it connects to his lost past, drives much of the season's forward momentum and keeps both Caiman and the audience guessing. His investigations regularly bring him into contact with Sorcerers, treated by the series in its trademark cartoonish, non-graphic style.
What makes Caiman compelling is his partnership with Nikaido, whose loyalty gives his quest a steady center. Even as the larger plot reveals how deeply his identity is tangled with the world of the Sorcerers, Caiman remains grounded by that friendship and by his simple, stubborn determination to understand himself. By the end of the first season, his story has opened far more questions than it answers, setting the stage for a bigger mystery.
