Character Arc
Seo Yul is the polished, ambitious director who serves as Chief Kim's chief antagonist for much of the series. Educated, photogenic, and ruthlessly strategic, he is a rising star within TQ Group's management who initially treats the chaos around the new manager as a problem to be neutralized. Where Sung-ryong is scrappy and impulsive, Seo Yul is calculating and cool, making the two natural rivals in the company's power struggles.
As the story unfolds, Seo Yul proves more complicated than a simple villain. His ambition is real, but so is a growing unease at the depth of the corruption he is expected to serve, and his clashes with Chief Kim gradually force him to weigh his career against his conscience. The series uses him to show how talented people get pulled into corporate wrongdoing and what it might take for them to push back.
By the later episodes, Seo Yul's rivalry with Sung-ryong evolves into an uneasy, often comic alliance against the executives at the very top. His arc traces a reluctant turn from company man toward reformer, complementing Chief Kim's own transformation. Together they embody the show's hopeful idea that even the corporate ladder's most upwardly mobile climbers can choose to do the right thing.
