Character Arc
Go Eun-chan is the beating heart of Coffee Prince, a young woman who has effectively become the man of her household. After her father's death left the family buried in debt, she dropped any notion of a carefree youth and threw herself into a rotating set of jobs, from delivering food to teaching taekwondo, to keep her mother and younger sister afloat. Short-haired, blunt, and endlessly practical, she lets the world assume she is a boy because correcting it has never been worth the trouble.
Her arc deepens when she takes the job at Coffee Prince and grows close to Choi Han-gyeol. What begins as another paycheck becomes the first relationship in which she feels genuinely seen, even as she carries the strain of hiding who she really is. Eun-chan wrestles with guilt over the deception, fear that the truth will cost her the people she has come to love, and the slow realization that she wants more from her own life than mere survival.
By the series' end, Eun-chan steps into the open as both a woman and a person with ambitions of her own, eventually pursuing professional training as a barista. Her journey is less a transformation than a permission slip to finally want things for herself, and her warmth and stubborn honesty are what hold the show's emotional core together.
