Character Arc
Kiyoshi Oze, who competes under the ring name Enno, is the brash, hot-tempered protagonist of Sanctuary. Raised in a poor family, he enters professional sumo not out of love for the sport but as a blunt path to money and status, and he openly resents the deference, ritual, and seniority the tradition demands. His arrogance and fighting spirit make him a magnetic but disruptive presence from the moment he arrives at the Ensho stable.
Over the season, the punishing routine of training, ranking, and stable life steadily reshapes him. What begins as pure self-interest is complicated as Enno discovers genuine talent, fierce rivals, and a code that cannot simply be bullied through. The series treats the surrounding grit and vice in general, non-graphic terms while keeping the spotlight on his climb up the ranks and the gradual shift in why he fights.
Enno's arc is the show's ambition-and-redemption engine: a young man chasing a payday who is forced to reckon with discipline, respect, and what he is willing to sacrifice. His clashes inside and outside the ring drive the central tension between raw individual will and an institution built on hierarchy and honored ceremony.
