Character Arc

Gautam Bansal is the older, more affluent of the two brothers at the heart of Stolen, and at first he wants nothing to do with the chaos unfolding on the railway platform. Pragmatic and guarded, he sees the missing-child crisis as someone else's problem and would rather drive away and let the authorities sort it out than risk being dragged into a stranger's tragedy.

Over the course of one long night, Gautam's detachment is steadily worn down. Forced to stay close to his younger brother Raman and the desperate mother Jhumpa, he is confronted with his own class privilege and the suspicion that wealthy outsiders draw in a frightened community. The further the search goes, the harder it becomes for him to remain a bystander.

Gautam's arc is the film's moral spine: a self-protective man pushed toward responsibility and empathy as the stakes climb. Abhishek Banerjee plays the shift in non-graphic, deeply human terms, letting Gautam's reluctance give way to a hard-won sense of accountability without losing the wariness that defines him.
