Character Arc
Greef Karga begins as the head of the Bounty Hunters' Guild on Nevarro — a pragmatic operator who distributes bounties, takes his commission, and asks no questions about the morality of the work. He is the man who gives Din Djarin the fateful assignment to retrieve Grogu, setting the entire series in motion. When Din goes rogue, Greef's first instinct is purely transactional: bringing the Mandalorian in means restoring order to his operation.
What follows is one of the show's most satisfying character transformations. Greef's brush with death — healed by Grogu's Force powers in the Season 1 finale — catalyzes a genuine change of heart. He switches sides, helping Din defeat the Imperial client, and in doing so discovers something he had lost: a sense of purpose beyond profit.
By Season 2, Greef has reinvented himself as the magistrate of Nevarro, transforming the lawless planet into a functioning community. Carl Weathers brings warmth, charisma, and a natural authority to the role, making Greef's evolution from morally ambiguous guild leader to civic-minded leader feel completely earned. His scenes with Grogu — particularly his genuine delight in the child's antics — provide some of the show's most charming moments.
Season 3 sees Greef fully committed to Nevarro's transformation, navigating threats from pirates and Imperial remnants alike. His willingness to stand and fight for his community, rather than cut a deal, marks the completion of an arc from opportunist to leader. Carl Weathers also directed a Season 3 episode, contributing to the series both in front of and behind the camera.
