Greg Hunt first appears in Season 1 as a seemingly unremarkable middle-aged man staying at the White Lotus in Hawaii, where he connects with Tanya McQuoid over shared vulnerability. He presents himself as an unwell, emotionally available man — the antithesis of the shallow wealth that surrounds them. Tanya, desperate for genuine connection, falls for him completely, and their relationship becomes the reason she abandons her promises to Belinda.
In Season 2, the true nature of Greg's character comes into devastating focus. Now married to Tanya, Greg is cold, distant, and frequently absent from their Sicilian vacation, claiming business obligations. His behavior triggers Tanya's deepest insecurities, and she spirals into the arms of Quentin and his entourage. What she doesn't realize — and what the audience gradually pieces together — is that Greg has been conspiring with Quentin to have Tanya murdered so he can inherit her fortune.
Greg's villainy is chilling precisely because of its banality. He is not a criminal mastermind but a garden-variety con man who saw an opportunity in a lonely, wealthy woman and played the long game. His early courtship of Tanya in Season 1 is retroactively reframed as predatory calculation disguised as kindness. Greg represents the show's darkest commentary on the intersection of money and love — that for the very wealthy, it is nearly impossible to know if affection is genuine, and the consequences of guessing wrong can be fatal.
