Character Arc

Dr. Gregory House is the head of diagnostic medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro, a man whose dazzling intellect is matched only by his appetite for self-destruction. A leg infarction left him with chronic pain, a permanent limp, and a dependence on Vicodin that shadows every season. He believes everybody lies, and he weaponizes that belief to solve cases no one else can.

Across eight seasons, House cycles through teams of fellows, burns through his friendship with Wilson, and pursues a long, combustible relationship with Cuddy that ends in spectacular ruin. His addiction escalates into a stint in a psychiatric hospital, a prison sentence, and a string of betrayals he can never quite take back. Every attempt at change collapses under the weight of who he is.

By the finale, House has lost nearly everything and faked his own death to spend Wilson's final months at his friend's side, a last act of devotion from a man who spent the whole series insisting he cared about no one. It is the closest thing to redemption the show ever allows him.
