Character Arc
Hathiram Chaudhary is a middle-aged Delhi inspector stuck in a dead-end posting, passed over for promotions and quietly resentful of the connected colleagues who keep sailing past him. When the assassination case falls into his hands, he sees a last shot at redemption and grabs it with both hands, even as everyone around him warns him to look the other way.
What begins as ambition slowly curdles into obsession, then into something close to conscience. Partnered with the earnest young officer Imran Ansari, Hathiram refuses to accept the convenient version of events being fed to him, and his stubbornness costs him dearly at work and at home. His strained marriage and his troubled teenage son sit just at the edge of every scene, reminders of the ordinary life slipping through his fingers.
By the end he has solved far more than the crime, having traced its roots through caste, politics and the men who profit from misery. He earns no medals and little thanks, but he walks away with a hard-won clarity about the world he polices. In the second season Hathiram returns, transferred to a haunting new case in the Northeast that tests him all over again.
