Character Arc
Joo Eun-ho is the heart of Dear Hyeri, an announcer who has worked for years without ever getting her chance to shine. Carrying the weight of painful losses, including the disappearance of her younger sister and the end of a long relationship, she develops dissociative identity disorder and begins to share her life with an alternate identity named Hye-ri. Eun-ho is careful, guarded, and used to making herself small, and her journey is about learning that survival can become something more than just enduring.
Hye-ri, by contrast, is warm, bold, and unafraid to take up space. Rather than being treated as a threat, Hye-ri becomes a part of Eun-ho's story that must be understood with patience. Across the series, the two selves move from confusion and friction toward a fragile, growing understanding, and the people around Eun-ho, including family, colleagues, and a returning first love, help create the safety she needs to heal.
Shin Hye-sun anchors the dual role with sensitivity, shifting between Eun-ho's reserve and Hye-ri's brightness without turning either into caricature. The arc is ultimately one of reconciliation and self-acceptance, framed with dignity and warmth, as Eun-ho learns that becoming whole means making room for every part of who she is.
