Character Arc
Thomas is one of the adult figures who moves through Julie's orbit during her travels in Kamikaze. Older and more settled than Julie, he becomes part of the shifting cast of people she encounters as she drifts across Europe, and his presence offers a contrast to her chaotic, untethered state. Where Julie is in free fall, Thomas represents a more grounded adult world that she is both drawn to and resistant against.
Through his interactions with Julie, the series examines the imbalance and risk in the connections she forms with strangers. Thomas's role helps illuminate how Julie uses other people to distract herself from grief, and how those encounters can be charged with tension, need, and the danger inherent in a vulnerable teenager moving alone through the world.
As a supporting figure, Thomas functions less as a character with his own season-long arc than as a mirror for Julie. His scenes underline the central drama's themes of isolation and self-endangerment, and he is part of the larger gallery of people who pass through Julie's journey without ultimately being able to halt her descent or carry her grief for her.
