Character Arc
Karen Walker is the pampered, pill-loving Manhattan socialite who works as Grace's assistant despite having no apparent need to work and even less inclination to do any actual work. With her clipped, helium-edged voice and bottomless martini glass, she fires off insults like a society sniper and steals nearly every scene she enters. She is fabulously wealthy, gloriously self-absorbed, and somehow impossible not to love.
Her marriage to the unseen, enormously rich Stan Walker funds a lifestyle of excess, while her sparring partnership with Jack becomes one of the show's most beloved double acts. Beneath the booze and the barbs, Karen reveals flashes of real loyalty to Grace and the gang, the kind of devotion she would never admit to out loud. Her tangled love life, including her on-and-off entanglements, gives the character surprising emotional stakes.
Through the original seasons and the revival, Karen barely ages and never apologizes, which is precisely her appeal. She floats above every crisis on a cloud of privilege and one-liners, dispensing terrible advice and accidental wisdom in equal measure. As the show's reigning fan favorite, she remains the most quoted and most outrageous of the foursome.
