Roza mama, formally Roza Kovacs, is the title character of Keresztanyu, the godmother who has run the smuggling network around the border village of Makkosszallas for decades. Shrewd, unsentimental, and quietly commanding, she presides over a sprawling family and a web of local arrangements with the calm authority of someone who has outlasted every rival.
The series is set in motion when, on her 69th birthday, Roza mama announces she intends to retire within a year and to leave the operation to whichever relative or associate can get elected mayor of the village. The decision turns her household into a contest, and much of the comedy springs from watching contenders jockey for her favor while she observes, manipulates, and judges from behind an unreadable expression.
Across four seasons Roza mama remains the show's fixed point, balancing genuine affection for her family against a clear-eyed sense of who can actually be trusted with what she built. Her arc is less about transformation than about a matriarch deciding, on her own terms, how and to whom her small empire should pass.
