Character Arc
In the original Dragon Ball, Goku begins as a cheerful, naive boy raised alone in the mountains, possessing superhuman strength, a monkey-like tail, and almost no knowledge of the outside world. His chance meeting with Bulma pulls him into the hunt for the Dragon Balls and opens up a world of new friends, strange enemies, and constant adventure that he approaches with boundless curiosity and an endless appetite for both food and a good fight.
Goku's growth is driven by his training under Master Roshi, where he learns discipline, the Kamehameha technique, and the value of hard work alongside his friend Krillin. Each Tenkaichi Budokai tournament marks a milestone in his development, pitting him against stronger opponents and teaching him humility, perseverance, and the joy of testing himself against worthy rivals.
By the end of the original series, Goku has matured from an innocent child into a capable and principled martial artist, having defeated dangerous foes such as the Red Ribbon Army and King Piccolo. His pure-hearted determination, loyalty to his friends, and love of a challenge become the defining traits that carry the character forward as one of anime's most iconic heroes.
