Character Arc
Konstantinos Katakouzinos is one half of the show's central odd couple, a grumpy, overly conservative and narrow-minded Byzantine scholar who works as an assistant professor at the University of Athens. Fussy about manners, order, and his treasured books, he sees himself as a man of refinement marooned in a coarsening world, and his rigid self-image is the perfect target for the comedy.
His life is upended when an inheritance forces him to share his grand Athens mansion with Eleni Vlachaki, a brash young waitress who is everything he disapproves of. Their relentless culture clash drives the series, with Konstantinos forever trying to impose rules and decorum on a household that refuses to cooperate. Beneath the stiffness, though, the character reveals flashes of vulnerability and a slowly thawing fondness for his unwanted housemate.
Across the show's two seasons, Konstantinos remains the comic anchor, his exasperated dignity repeatedly punctured by Eleni and by his own pretensions. Played and co-written by Haris Romas, the character became one of the most recognizable figures in Greek sitcom history, an emblem of the buttoned-up snob undone by everyday chaos.
