Character Arc
Madelyn Madeleine Hayes is a successful former fashion model whose life is upended when her business managers embezzle her savings and disappear. Left nearly bankrupt, she learns that the few assets remaining in her name include the unprofitable City of Angels investigation firm, which she renames the Blue Moon Detective Agency after a shampoo brand she once advertised. Initially intending to shut it down, she is talked into keeping it running by its irrepressible lead detective, David Addison.
Poised, elegant, and accustomed to control, Maddie serves as the sharp, skeptical counterweight to David's chaotic energy. She is intelligent and quick-witted, often exasperated by his antics yet drawn into the agency's cases and, increasingly, into a complicated attraction to her business partner. Her arc traces a guarded, image-conscious woman gradually loosening her composure as she adapts to a messy new life she never planned for.
Over the course of the series, Maddie's relationship with David becomes the show's emotional center, moving through rivalry, partnership, and romance.
