Character Arc
Matsumoto is an advanced AI from roughly a hundred years in the future who travels back in time in the form of a small floating cube to enlist Vivy. He carries the data and directives for the Project Singularity and serves as the mission's strategist, feeding Vivy information and instructions as they work to reshape history. His talkative and often sardonic personality makes him a sharp contrast to the more reserved Vivy.
Throughout the operation Matsumoto can reconfigure his cube body into various forms to assist in combat and infiltration, and he frequently debates with Vivy over the methods and ethics of their interventions. While he initially insists on cold efficiency in service of the mission, his long partnership with Vivy gradually reveals a more complicated and even loyal side. The two grow to rely on each other as the stakes escalate across the decades.
As the series builds toward its conclusion, Matsumoto's true role and the full scope of his knowledge become central to the outcome of the Project Singularity. His bond with Vivy is ultimately tested by the very crisis they have spent a century trying to avert.
