Character Arc
Merli Bergeron is the title character, a middle-aged philosophy teacher with little money, a chaotic personal life and an unshakeable belief that teaching should provoke rather than soothe. When he takes a post at the Angel Guimera institute, he turns the classroom into an arena where teenagers are challenged to argue, doubt and defend their own ideas. He can be inspiring and cruel in the same lesson, and the series never asks the viewer to fully approve of him.
His return to his mother Carmina's flat forces him back into the life of his teenage son Bruno, and much of Merli's arc is about whether a man so good at lecturing on how to live can actually show up for the people closest to him. His entanglements with colleagues, parents and the school leadership repeatedly put his job and relationships at risk.
Across three seasons Merli grows closer to certain students, most notably Pol Rubio, becoming a mentor whose influence outlasts the classroom. The character's blend of warmth, arrogance and genuine conviction made him the emotional engine of the show. Specific plot beats should be confirmed against primary sources before publication.
