Character Arc
Nick Burkhardt is a Portland homicide detective whose ordinary life is upended when he begins seeing people transform into monstrous creatures. After his Aunt Marie reveals that he is a Grimm, Nick learns that he comes from a long line of hunters tasked with confronting the Wesen who live in secret among humans. Early in the series he struggles to reconcile his sworn duty as a police officer with the violent legacy he has inherited.
As the show progresses, Nick rejects the idea that all Wesen are enemies and instead becomes a protector and peacekeeper. He builds a circle of trusted allies, most notably his friendship with the reformed Blutbad Monroe, and brings his partner Hank and others into his confidence. His relationship with Juliette and later events involving his powers test him repeatedly, forcing him to make hard choices about who he can trust.
Over six seasons Nick grows from a reluctant newcomer into a confident leader who stands at the center of conflicts involving Wesen politics, royal conspiracies, and ancient artifacts. He ultimately becomes a father and faces threats that endanger everyone he loves, drawing on both his detective instincts and his Grimm heritage. By the finale, Nick has fully embraced his identity while fighting to protect his family and his city.
