Detective Sergeant Mackenzie "Mack" Clarke is the heart of Return to Paradise: a razor-sharp London Metropolitan Police detective who returns to her Australian hometown of Dolphin Cove after being accused of falsifying evidence in a major English case. She arrives defensive and out of place, intending to clear her name and leave, only to find that her gift for reading people and untangling impossible puzzles makes her indispensable to the local force.
Mack's brilliance is matched by her emotional guardedness. The town she fled is full of unfinished business, most pointedly her former fiance Glenn Strong, now the local forensic pathologist, and the family memories she has spent years avoiding.
