Dr. Seth Hazlitt is Cabot Cove's longtime general practitioner and one of Jessica Fletcher's closest and most trusted friends. Gruff, opinionated, and quick with a grumble, he embodies the no-nonsense New England physician who has treated half the town and knows everyone's secrets, yet beneath the irascible exterior lies a deeply loyal and warmhearted man.
As a recurring fixture of the Cabot Cove cast, Seth frequently finds himself drawn into Jessica's investigations, sometimes as a sounding board, sometimes providing crucial medical insight about a victim's cause of death, and often as a reluctant but devoted partner who worries about her habit of confronting dangerous people. His banter with Jessica over coffee and his stubborn old-fashioned views provide much of the show's homespun humor.
Across his many appearances, Seth grows into the emotional anchor of Cabot Cove, the friend who can speak frankly to Jessica when others cannot and who represents the enduring, neighborly community at the heart of the series.
