Character Arc
Song Ha-young is the series' central profiler, a soft-spoken analyst whose strength lies in empathy and close observation rather than force. Recruited into the fledgling Criminal Behavior Analysis unit, he approaches each case by trying to reconstruct an offender's reasoning, drawing inferences from patterns in evidence and behavior. His restraint and reluctance to grandstand frequently put him at odds with detectives who prefer fast, aggressive tactics.
Over the course of the season, Song earns the trust of his colleagues by repeatedly demonstrating that careful analysis can redirect a stalled investigation. His method, listening rather than pressing, builds a quiet authority, but it also exposes him to the psychological weight of the work. The series treats his composure as something he must actively protect, not something that comes free.
Song's arc is ultimately about legitimizing a new discipline and preserving his own humanity while doing so. As profiling gains acceptance within the force, he becomes a model for what the practice can be at its best: rigorous, humane, and resistant to the temptation to treat suspects or victims as mere puzzle pieces.
