Character Arc
Renars is the magnetic heart of Soviet Jeans, a quick-witted young entrepreneur who has turned the smuggling and resale of Western blue jeans into a flourishing underground business in 1970s Riga. Charming, restless, and allergic to the gray conformity around him, he sees denim not merely as a product but as a symbol of the freer life he craves. His confidence and easy patter make him a natural salesman, but they also make him reckless.
When his dealings finally draw the attention of the authorities, Renars is committed to a psychiatric hospital, a turn that strips away his hustler's swagger and forces him to reckon with vulnerability, boredom, and the genuine connections he forms with fellow patients. Rather than break him, the experience sparks his most ambitious idea yet: to produce jeans himself, converting confinement into a strange new opportunity.
Across the season, Renars grows from a self-interested operator into someone capable of loyalty, love, and a deeper understanding of the people he once treated as customers. His arc balances comedy and pathos, charting how a dreamer holds onto his spark within a system designed to flatten it, and how friendship and first love reshape what he believes he is chasing.
