Ernie Heisterkamp is one of the long-suffering employees in Stromberg's department, an earnest and somewhat naive office worker who tries to keep his head down and stay on the right side of his volatile boss. Mild-mannered and eager to please, Ernie often becomes the target of Stromberg's casual cruelty and ill-judged schemes, making him a key sounding board for the show's awkward humour.
