Titus Pullo is Rome's beating, brawling heart — a legionary of enormous appetite and almost childlike candor who blunders through the death of the Republic leaving bodies, broken rules, and unlikely tenderness in his wake. Where his comrade Vorenus is all discipline, Pullo is pure impulse: he drinks, gambles, whores, and kills with the same uncomplicated gusto, and yet keeps stumbling into the great events of the age as if history itself can't resist him.
His arc is the surprise of the series. The lovable brute turns out to have the steadiest moral compass of anyone in Rome — loyal to Vorenus past all reason, devoted to the slave girl Eirene, and quietly decent in a city that rewards none of it. A running joke that Pullo is secretly responsible for half of recorded history (he may have fathered a very famous son) captures the show's sly affection for him.
Ray Stevenson's huge, warm, dangerous performance made Pullo a fan favorite and gave the prestige bloodbath its sense of humor and its soul.
