About Beleza Fatal
Beleza Fatal (internationally titled Scars of Beauty) is a 2025 Brazilian telenovela released on Max, billed as the platform's first original soap opera produced in Latin America. Set against the glossy, high-stakes world of the cosmetics and aesthetic-clinic business, it follows Sofia Fernandes, who as a girl witnesses her mother wrongfully imprisoned through a betrayal orchestrated by her own ambitious cousin, Lola. After her mother dies behind bars, Sofia is taken in by the warm, spiritual Elvira Paixao, whose family carries its own grief, and the two women slowly forge an alliance built on a shared sense of injustice.
Years later, Sofia returns under a new identity, Julia Guimaraes, having trained as an aesthetician, and steps into the orbit of the powerful Argento clinic empire that Lola now helps preside over. As Julia, she works methodically to expose the lies that destroyed her family and to dismantle the world her aunt built. The series is structured as a propulsive revenge melodrama, layering romance, family secrets, and corporate intrigue while keeping its emotional center on whether justice, once pursued, can be won without paying too high a personal price.
Created and written by Raphael Montes, with a writing team and direction led by Maria de Medicis, the telenovela stars Camila Queiroz in the dual role of Sofia and Julia, Camila Pitanga as the calculating Lola, and Giovanna Antonelli as Elvira. Released across 40 episodes from late January to March 2025, Beleza Fatal earned attention as an ambitious streaming-era take on the classic Brazilian novela, blending the genre's signature heightened emotion with a contemporary, binge-friendly structure.
