About Code Geass

In an alternate timeline, the Holy Britannian Empire has crushed Japan and renamed it Area 11, stripping its people of their names, rights, and dignity. Lelouch vi Britannia, an exiled prince hiding in plain sight as the schoolboy Lelouch Lamperouge, has sworn to destroy the empire that murdered his mother and discarded his crippled sister. He just lacks the means to do it.

That changes when a mysterious green-haired girl named C.C. grants him the power of Geass, the absolute command to make anyone obey a single order. Donning the mask of the revolutionary Zero, Lelouch builds a resistance movement and turns the conflict into a vast game of strategy, deception, and escalating sacrifice. His brilliance is matched only by his arrogance, and every victory drags him further from the boy he used to be.

What makes the series sing is the collision between Lelouch and his idealistic best friend Suzaku Kururugi, a Japanese soldier who believes the empire can be reformed from within rather than torn down. The performances carry that moral weight: Jun Fukuyama gives Lelouch his theatrical menace and aching vulnerability, Takahiro Sakurai grounds Suzaku in tortured conviction, and Yukana lends C.C. an immortal weariness wrapped in mischief.
