About Drole
Drole (released internationally as Standing Up, and titled Funny in some markets) is a 2022 French Netflix dramedy from Fanny Herrero, the creator of Call My Agent. Across six episodes it follows four young hopefuls trying to break into the Paris stand-up scene, where the open mic is equal parts launchpad and firing squad. Their orbit centers on a comedy club called Le Drole, the cramped basement room where reputations are made and unmade one set at a time.
Aissatou is a rising talent balancing old loyalties against the pull of sudden fame after a video goes viral. Nezir is a gifted, driven comic scraping by on day jobs while caring for his ailing father. Apolline is a sheltered young woman from a wealthy family chasing the mic in secret, desperate to escape the polished future her mother has mapped out for her. Around them circles Bling, a cocky, self-destructing veteran clinging to a fading reputation.
Warm, sharp, and generous to its messy heroes, Drole treats stand-up as both craft and confession, mining real vulnerability from the silence after a joke lands wrong. Herrero created the show with Herve Lassince, and the ensemble shoots through the comedy clubs, day jobs, family kitchens, and late-night cabs of a recognizably modern Paris. The series ran for a single six-episode season.
