About Dunia Terbalik
Dunia Terbalik (Upside-Down World) is a long-running Indonesian comedy sinetron produced by MNC Pictures and broadcast nightly on RCTI from January 2017 to January 2023. Set in a West Java village in the Jonggol area near Bogor, the series follows a close-knit circle of husbands whose wives have gone abroad to work as migrant laborers, leaving the men to keep house, cook, clean, and raise the children. By turning the everyday rhythm of village domestic life over to the fathers, the show gently flips familiar gender roles and finds warm, good-natured humor in the result.
At the heart of the village are friends and neighbors like Akum, the earnest and excitable head of the neighborhood association, and the well-off, teasing Dadang, whose comfortable circumstances and sharp tongue make him a constant foil for the others. Watching over the community is the patient religious teacher Ustadz Kemed, whose guidance keeps squabbles from boiling over and reminds everyone of the values that hold the village together. Their daily misadventures, with cooking mishaps, school runs, gossip, and small rivalries, form the gentle comic engine of the series.
Across its enormous run, Dunia Terbalik balances broad situational comedy with a sincere portrait of family, faith, and neighborly devotion. The humor is affectionate rather than cruel, celebrating the men's clumsy but loving efforts at homemaking while honoring the absent wives whose labor abroad supports their families. That blend of laughter and heart made the show one of RCTI's signature comedy sinetron and a durable favorite in Indonesian households.
