About Extremely Inappropriate!
Extremely Inappropriate! (Futekisetsu ni mo Hodo ga Aru!) is a 2024 Japanese television comedy created and written by Kankuro Kudo for the network TBS. It centers on Ogawa Ichiro, a blunt, chain-smoking physical education teacher living in 1986 Tokyo, whose old-fashioned habits and unfiltered way of speaking are perfectly ordinary for his era. When he boards a city bus, he is unexpectedly flung nearly four decades forward into the Tokyo of 2024, where his every instinct collides head-on with a society that now prizes sensitivity, consent, and political correctness.
Stranded in a present he does not understand, Ichiro stumbles through a world of smartphones, social media outrage, workplace harassment seminars, and a vocabulary of rules he never knew existed. His tactless remarks, meant kindly in his own mind, land like grenades among the people he meets, including a stressed television producer and a sociology scholar who studies the very norms he keeps breaking. Yet beneath the culture-clash gags, the series lets Ichiro slowly listen, and lets the modern characters reconsider what has been gained and lost in the name of progress.
Kudo, long celebrated for blending broad comedy with genuine warmth, uses the time-slip premise to poke fun at both 1986 and 2024 without scolding either. Punctuated by sudden musical numbers and a recurring narrator, the ten-episode run drew strong word of mouth in Japan for being laugh-out-loud funny while quietly moving, especially in its tender father-daughter thread. It became one of the most talked-about Japanese dramas of its season and was praised for handling a touchy subject with affection rather than lecture.
