About Success
Success, known in Croatian as Uspjeh, is a six-part social crime thriller and the first original drama series produced in Croatia for HBO Europe. Set in present-day Zagreb, it follows four strangers from very different walks of life whose paths collide after a single violent night. When a confrontation ends in a killing that the characters frame to themselves as self-defense, the four are bound together by the need to hide what happened, and by the slow realization that the secret will reshape every part of their lives.
The series moves between social classes and neighborhoods, contrasting the polished world of professionals and developers with the harder edges of the city, where debt, addiction, and quiet desperation press in from the margins. As the cover-up holds and then begins to fray, each character is forced to choose how far they will go to protect themselves and one another. What starts as a story about a crime becomes a study of guilt, class, and the uneasy bargains people make when they decide to take control of their own fate.
Created and written by Marjan Alcevski, the winner of the HBO Adria First Draft competition, Success marked the television debut of Bosnian filmmaker Danis Tanovic, the Oscar-winning director of No Man's Land. Filmed entirely in Zagreb and built around an ensemble of leading regional actors, the series drew strong reviews for its tense, character-driven storytelling and became a landmark for high-end drama from the wider Adria region, reaching international audiences through HBO and its streaming platforms.
