About The Mentalist
The Mentalist follows Patrick Jane, a charming consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation who solves crimes using nothing but razor-sharp observation, cold reading, and an actor's gift for misdirection. Once a celebrity psychic who faked his powers for fame and fortune, Jane now insists there is no such thing as real psychics, only people skilled at reading the tells everyone else misses. His unorthodox methods drive his colleagues crazy and close cases nobody else can crack.
Beneath the easy smile lies a man consumed by grief and vengeance. Years earlier, Jane taunted a serial killer named Red John on live television, and the killer responded by murdering his wife and young daughter. That single act reshapes everything: Jane joins law enforcement less to serve justice than to get close enough to find Red John and kill him, and the long cat-and-mouse hunt becomes the dark engine driving the entire series.
Balancing his obsession is the by-the-book team that tolerates and slowly comes to love him, led by Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon and anchored by the unflappable Kimball Cho. Over seven seasons the show blends slick case-of-the-week mysteries with a serialized revenge saga and a slow-burning romance, all powered by its leads. The series stars Simon Baker, Robin Tunney, and Tim Kang.
