Character Arc
Clarke Griffin is the central protagonist of The 100, introduced as a teenager imprisoned on the Ark after being implicated in her late father's attempt to expose the station's failing life support. Sent to the ground with the other delinquents, she quickly emerges as a natural leader whose medical knowledge, learned from her mother, makes her invaluable to the group's survival. Principled but pragmatic, she becomes the moral center of the story even as the choices she faces grow darker.
Across the series Clarke is repeatedly forced to make impossible decisions that trade lives for survival, earning her the painful nickname Wanheda, or Commander of Death, among the Grounders. Her leadership is defined by the burden of doing terrible things for the sake of her people, from negotiating fragile alliances to acts she can never fully forgive herself for. Her relationships, including a defining bond with Lexa and a deep partnership with Bellamy, shape much of her emotional journey.
By the later seasons Clarke has survived radiation waves, time in space, and years of isolation, all while clinging to the hope of building a future for those she loves. She evolves from a guilt-ridden young leader into a hardened survivor who still believes peace is possible, even when it demands enormous sacrifice. Her arc anchors the show's central question of how far a good person will go to keep others alive.
