Connor Temple starts out as one of Cutter's enthusiastic university students, a geeky, comic-book-loving expert in cryptozoology whose encyclopaedic knowledge of obscure creatures proves unexpectedly vital. Awkward and eager to please, he latches onto the anomaly investigations as the adventure he has always dreamed of, even as he struggles to be taken seriously by the more seasoned members of the team.
Over the seasons Connor matures from comic relief into one of the show's most capable figures, growing into a gifted inventor and the team's resident technology specialist. His feelings for Abby Maitland form a long-running romantic thread, tested when the pair are stranded together in the Cretaceous and forced to survive in the deep past for over a year, an ordeal that hardens and bonds them.
Connor's optimism becomes a liability when his fascination with the anomalies leads him to trust the wrong people and help develop technology that could control them, with dangerous consequences. By the final series he has become a core leader of the ARC, balancing his inventive brilliance against the guilt of past mistakes and his commitment to protecting both Abby and the world from the forces he once naively admired.
