About Primeval

Primeval follows a small team of scientists, soldiers and animal experts who investigate mysterious temporal rifts known as anomalies. These shimmering tears in time open without warning across modern Britain, allowing creatures from the distant prehistoric past and the far future to spill into the present day. Led initially by evolutionary zoologist Professor Nick Cutter, the team must contain each incursion before the public learns the truth and before history itself is altered.

What begins as a search for Cutter's missing wife Helen quickly spirals into a wider conspiracy involving the government, a shadowy organisation, and the dangerous question of whether the anomalies can be controlled. The Anomaly Research Centre (ARC) becomes the team's base of operations, blending cutting-edge technology with old-fashioned fieldwork as members track velociraptors through office blocks, future predators through the Underground, and giant insects across the countryside.

Across five series the show balances monster-of-the-week thrills with serialised mythology, exploring time travel, parallel timelines and the ripple effects of meddling with the past. As characters are lost, replaced and transformed, Primeval grows from a creature-feature adventure into an ensemble drama about loyalty, sacrifice and the consequences of tampering with the natural order of time.
