Character Arc
Eijun Sawamura is the energetic, loud, and relentlessly optimistic southpaw at the heart of the series. He arrives at Seido from a tiny country school, confident in his unorthodox pitching but completely unprepared for the talent and discipline around him. His naturally moving, hard-to-control fastball makes him intriguing to the coaching staff, but his lack of command and refined technique mean he must rebuild his game almost from scratch.
Much of Eijun's arc is the slow, hard-earned climb from raw prospect to dependable pitcher. He learns to harness his movement, develops new pitches, and gradually wins the trust of catcher Kazuya Miyuki, who pushes and frustrates him in equal measure. His fierce rivalry with the powerhouse Satoru Furuya becomes a defining engine of his growth, as the two southpaw-and-fastballer foils chase the same coveted ace number.
Beyond his own development, Eijun functions as the emotional spark of the team, rallying teammates with sheer enthusiasm and refusing to back down from stronger opponents. His journey embodies the show's core message that hard work, stubbornness, and love of the game can close the gap on natural genius, making him an inspiring underdog throughout Seido's pursuit of Koshien.
