Character Arc
Wen Xiao is the female lead of Fangs of Fortune and a disciple of the late goddess Bai Ze. Loyal to her teacher's legacy, she is among the first to grow suspicious of Zhao Yuanzhou and the convenient timing of his offer to help the court. Rather than stand aside, she joins the newly formed demon-hunting bureau, partly to safeguard the human realm and partly to keep a watchful eye on the man she senses is hiding something.
Within the ensemble, Wen Xiao functions as the moral compass and the audience's skeptical surrogate, repeatedly testing Zhao Yuanzhou's motives as the team works through its supernatural cases. Her connection to the goddess gives her insight into the mythology underpinning the calamity, and her determination drives several turning points in the investigation. The gradual, guarded thaw between her wariness and reluctant trust forms one of the show's central emotional threads.
As the cases converge on the ancient calamity, Wen Xiao must reconcile her devotion to her teacher's memory with the alliances she has formed, including with a being she once distrusted entirely. Her arc tracks a movement from suspicion toward hard-won understanding, and her resolve becomes essential to the group's efforts to avert disaster. Chen Duling's portrayal grounds the fantasy in human stakes.
