Character Arc
Yoshiki Tsujinaka is one of the two central teenagers, a quiet, observant village boy whose closest bond in the world is his lifelong friendship with Hikaru. When Hikaru returns from the mountains seeming subtly off, Yoshiki is the first to sense that his friend is no longer who he was. That realization fractures his sense of reality, and much of his arc is the slow, painful work of grieving someone who is still sitting right beside him.
Rather than flee or expose the truth, Yoshiki makes the defining choice of the series: he decides to keep the presence wearing Hikaru's face close, accepting the danger and unease that comes with it. His arc traces the tension between love and fear, between the comfort of pretending nothing has changed and the dread of what his friend has become. He is tender, stubborn, and increasingly willing to shoulder secrets that isolate him from the rest of the village.
As the season unfolds, Yoshiki is drawn deeper into the village's old folklore and the mystery of what happened on the mountain. His protectiveness toward Hikaru puts him at odds with neighbors, classmates, and an inquisitive outsider, and forces him to weigh how much of himself he is willing to lose to hold on to a friendship that may no longer be safe.
