Character Arc

Hiyori Iki is an ordinary high school girl whose life is upended when she pushes Yato out of the path of an oncoming bus to save him. The accident loosens her soul from her body, leaving her a half-phantom who can cross into the spirit world and who faints into a sleeping state when her soul slips free. With a phantom tail tethering her two halves, she becomes caught between the human world and the realm of gods.

Hoping that Yato can fix her condition and make her fully human again, Hiyori attaches herself to him and is drawn ever deeper into his world. Along the way she becomes the steady heart of the group, caring deeply for both Yato and the Regalia Yukine and often acting as the voice of compassion when tensions run high. Her loyalty repeatedly puts her in danger, but it is also what holds the trio together.

Over the course of the series, Hiyori grows from a frightened bystander into a brave and devoted companion who refuses to abandon her friends. She wrestles with the bittersweet possibility that being cured might mean forgetting Yato entirely, a fear that underscores how much the bond means to her. Her arc is defined by the choice to stay close to the people she loves, even when the spirit world offers her nothing but uncertainty.
